Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani, Also known as MM Cream, recently spoke about winning an Academy Award for the song grandson grandson In an interview with Indian Express, Naatu Naatu (RRR) won the award in the Best Original Song category at the Academy Awards 2023. The musician believes that he won the award for a song that is not his best. When asked if he got recognition late, the composer-singer said, “Look, sooner or later, global recognition has been given to a song which is not my best. That’s all I can say. But, when recognition comes. Come, it will come from some corner but when Sometimes it is late, because it is late.

Expressing his thoughts on the changing scenario of Bollywood music, MM Keeravani said, “It’s respecting the raga. The melody can be anything, it can be fast or slow. In the language of music, raga is music. In the common man’s lexicon, a melody is soothing and a bit slow, it stays in your mind or heart for a long time.”

A quick lookback at India’s big moment on the Oscars stage – MM Keerwani said in his acceptance speech, “I grew up listening to the Carpenters and now I’m with Oscar.” He sang the 70s pop hit Top of the World with his own version of the lyrics: “I had only one wish. … RRR must win, every Indian is proud, and I must give. On top of the world.”

Naatu Naatu beat Tell It Like a Woman, Hold My Hand, Top Gun: Maverick, Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and This Is Life from Everything Everywhere All at Once to win the Oscar.

MM Keeravani mainly composed music for Tamil and Telugu films. He composed music for Hindi films like Criminal, Injury, Jism, Disease, Saya.
