Kunal Khemu Has proven his talent as an actor since his debut as a child actor in the 1987 Doordarshan TV serial. Gul Gulshan Gulfamnow, in 2024, the actor has made his directorial debut Margaon Express, a comedy written by him. Apart from doing well at the box office, the film has garnered praise from various quarters. But what does his wife, actress-writer Soha Ali Khan have to say about Kunal Khemu’s directorial debut? talking to News18 Shosha, Kunal Khemu shared that her “reaction was all positive”. He said: “When she did see some of the crowd, her response was all positive. As much as I trust her and know that she can talk to me, sometimes I feel like she can go easy on me so that’s encouraging. Maybe she did that to understand whether I am confident about my film or not.”
The actor-director also added that Soha Ali Khan played a major role in restoring Kunal’s confidence in himself. He said: “She knew I was carrying a huge burden and I was excited and nervous about it. But I also believe in myself and so I know that what she thinks is not completely wrong. Margaon Expresss was in the right place. I felt proud and happy about what I did.”
“She (Soha Ali Khan) chooses the right words and conveys her thoughts in the right way. That wet slap was of no use. She sits me down, calms me down, and then lovingly tells me if and when I mess up. It’s her way of slapping me (laughs),” Kunal Khemu said about his bond with Soha Ali Khan.
Meanwhile, before Margaon Express theater hit, Soha Ali Khan shared a warm note dedicated to Kunal Khemu. Sharing BTS scenes from the film set, the doting wife wrote: “It’s safe to say that from the age of 8, a film set is your second home; We even met sixteen years ago on a film set – maybe that’s where you found yourself too! As an actor you have proved your mettle many times – in all genres but today you share your love, sweat and yes tears with the audience as a writer-director. I’ve always been so proud of you – and you’ve taken me through a myriad of emotions, from joy to anger, but one thing you’ve always done is make me laugh, and in a way only you can. How can you be mad at someone who makes you laugh? I have seen you working hard on this film – right from its inception – pouring out your ideas on paper in the solitary wee hours of the morning – handling the sets with confidence and that is rarely easy for a first-time director. Have I already said how proud I am of you? My dear, I wish you much appreciation and success. As they say, even an onion can make people cry, but not everyone can make people laugh.
