Sanjeeda Shaikh playing the role of Waheeda in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s OTT serial Hiramandi: Diamond BazaarShared that playing as an artist is a challenging but extremely fun character.
Sanjeeda is one of Bhansali’s most complex characters — a tawaif betrayed by humanity and fate, makes peace in life to be part of a greater cause.
Talking about it, she said: “Waheeda was a very challenging character to portray. Sanjay sir has portrayed a very complex yet rounded character. She has many layers, it feels like she is contradicting herself. Explaining exactly what is going on in her head is often difficult. It’s difficult but if you look closely and my acting resonates as I want it to, I think the audience can understand how she feels.
“So she is challenging but a very fun character as an actor. I had Sanjay sir as a guide and with him you don’t give 100 per cent to your character, you have to give it. 200 per cent in every scene I got to play her,” Sanjeeda said. She continued.
Heeramandi also stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal and Sanjeeda Shaikh.
The series is airing on Netflix.
