Deepika Padukone Wears many hats – an actress, producer and entrepreneur. She is also known for speaking openly about her battle with depression. Recently, the actress spoke about mental health and her non-profit organization, Live Love Laugh Foundation, which is dedicated to anxiety, depression and mental health. In an interview with deadline, Deepika shared, “It really started with my personal journey over a decade ago and when I went through my own experience with anxiety and depression, I remember everything being so forbidden and quiet and it made me wonder why we went like this? That was it. This is what motivated me to come out and talk about my own experience and normalize it. ” Deepika and Ranveer Singh are all set to welcome their first child in September.

Deepika Padukone first spoke about dealing with depression during an interview with NDTV in 2015. She had said, “I woke up one morning just feeling empty, you know I have this feeling in my stomach that I was telling them (Deepika’s parents – Prakash Padukone and Ujjala Padukone) that I get this nagging feeling in my stomach. I woke up feeling directionless, didn’t know where to go, didn’t know what to do and felt so low that I would cry at the drop of a hat and luckily at that point you know they’re coming and they spend some time with me every few months. And actually it was the day, I think a day or two later they were leaving or something like that and they were getting ready to go to the airport. At that time and usually I go and sit with them in the room before they leave.

Deepika Padukone added, “I started crying, so she (Ujjala Padukone) said, ‘Are you okay?’ Because leaving family is always difficult, you know I have been working since I was 18 and it is difficult, every time I go to Bangalore or I have to leave or they come to Bombay so it is difficult. So, she thought maybe it’s a thing like don’t worry we’ll be back soon and I kept crying and crying. I think she could sense something was wrong, she asked me if it had something to do with my personal life or if it was your work or someone told you something and it was none of these and she felt that something was wrong and I I think she changed the ticket and then she told my father, he said you should continue because we also have a younger sister (Anisha Padukone), who he has to take care of.

“I would get on a flight and land somewhere and I remember going to a conclave this year, last time when it was the first opening days and I cried in my room and then I had to go and smile and speak in front of a lot of people. My face looks like everything is fine and it’s number one the whole session. I was sitting in my room crying and then here I have to talk about achieving everything and then I have to fly back and then I land and then again I have to lock myself in the bathroom and cry because there are so many people,” Deepika Padukone added while talking about her feelings.
