Garfield is unhappy with his father for abandoning him when he was a kitten. Now he has no choice but to stay with Vic for the ‘mission’. On top of that, he’s been an indoor cat all his life and doesn’t know the typical cat stuff to survive outdoors. What happens next sets up the rest of the film.

Garfield Movie Story Review:
This story has all the trappings of an entertainer. The screenplay by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgov and David Reynolds is fast-paced and packs a lot into 101 minutes. The dialogues are fun and add to the fun.

Mark Dindal’s direction is impressive. It is a contemporary animation film as modern technology forms an important part of the plot like food apps, delivery by drone etc. At one point, ‘Shark Tank’ is mentioned and he laughs. Homage to Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible and Top Gun will be loved. The father-son bond is the best part of the activity. Most importantly, there’s a lot of beauty and adventure for the whole family.

On the other hand, the villain’s track is pretty weak. The opponent is supposed to be intimidating but it doesn’t happen for a second. Secondly, the idea of using an acorn as a walkie-talkie is interesting but very illogical. The makers could have come up with something better than giving something like this in the final product. Finally, the film’s buzz is limited in India.

Garfield Movie Screening:
Chris Pratt’s voiceover is fixed. He brings out the right attitude that a character like Garfield needs. Samuel L. Jackson steps in and rocks the show. Ving Rhames (Otto) is interesting. Hannah Waddingham does a good job but is let down by the character. Cecily Strong (Marge Malone) does better at being a creepy character. However, she has limited screen time. Nicholas Holt, Nicholas Holt and Bowen Yang provide capable support.

Garfield Movie Music and Other Technical Aspects:
John Debney’s music and soundtrack match the mood of the film. Pete Oswald’s production design is fantasy. Animation meets global standards. Mark Keefer’s editing is smooth.

Garfield Movie Conclusion:
Overall, the Garfield movie is a complete entertainer for the entire family. At the box office, the film may initially impress with limited buzz but may grow in the long run.
