Actor Indresh Malik who played the role of Ustad Ji in the Netflix series Hiramandi: Diamond Bazar said he “cried” after he performed the Nath sequence on the show, prompting filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali to reward him with Rs 500 in appreciation for his moving performance. In this serial, Indresh played the role of a strange man. In an interview with Times Now, the actor said that he had “tears” in his eyes when Sanjay Leela Bhansali narrated the scene to him, even though there was no dialogue in the scene.
He said, “My character’s scene felt like someone who accepted me, warmed me up. To wear Nath is to gain respect. At that point when the scene happened, I was crying for about five minutes or more. I couldn’t cry quietly, so I screamed. I was screaming and crying like a baby, there was a pin drop silence.”
The actor added, “He said, ‘See I’m crying, I felt like doing this (Why are you crying, you did so well)’. Then he hugged me and gave me 500 rupees on the set as a token of appreciation. I kept thinking about the character and it went on for five minutes.”
Recently, Jason Shah, who plays British police officer Cartwright, opened up about a gay scene in the series with Ustadji played by Indresh Malik. In an interview with Filmibeat OTT, Jason Shah admitted that initially he was hesitant to shoot the scene but he is confident that the director will not shoot it cheaply.
“To get that close to another human being, you have to deal with… hesitation is the perfect word. I didn’t hesitate to say yes to the show, and I felt comfortable because I was working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, so I knew aesthetically, it wouldn’t be shot in a cheap way. I knew his standards would be fulfilled. I was definitely nervous until that day. They told me at night that it would be the scene tomorrow,” he said.
He also praised his co-star Indresh Malik and thanked him for making sure he was comfortable before their intimate scene.
