Actress Vidya Balan played the role of Manjulika in the 2007 hit film Mistake, says it was the shortest time she took to say yes to a film, and that too without reading the script. Vidya Balan had seen the original Malayalam film Manichitrathalu And when Priyadarshan offered her an original role as Shobhana, she jumped at the chance. The Hindi version featured Akshay Kumar as a pyshcharatist and Balan as Avni, who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. Shiny Ahuja played the role of her husband in the film.
Vidya Balan is all set to make a comeback in the third part of the comedy horror film.
“I remember I went to meet Priyan sir (Priyadarshan). He was shooting a commercial with Sunny Deol in Mumbai, and he said, ‘Can you come and meet me on the set?’ I had watched the original Malayalam movie Manichitrathalu (1993) as a kid, and I loved Shobana but I was also scared of her and never watched the movie.
“But when he offered me the movie, I said, ‘Wow, are you offering me that movie?’, and I immediately said yes. I had seen the original movie so there was no script or anything. It was probably the smallest gift. .It was the shortest time I had to say yes to a film because I loved the original,” the actor told PTI in an interview.
Vidya Balan said that she is completely dependent on Priyadarshan to play the role of Avni, who comes to believe in the legend of Bengali dancer Manjulika.
Narrating the story behind a famous scene in the film where Avni momentarily transforms into Manjulika and ends up lifting a heavy bed, Balan credited Priyadarshan for his effortless direction.
“We Made a Movie”Hastily played‘ And the director knew exactly what he wanted and knew how to get that work from us. People talk about that scene in the film… I went to the set and we were doing a scene and Priyan sir said this is the next scene (the bed lifting scene), I said, ‘Okay, so what do I do? ‘ “When I think back, I’m like, ‘We didn’t even know how we did it’. But again, no one takes themselves too seriously. I think Priya gave that direction for you, she gave me the right kind of direction. . Hint, I knew the lines, it was a short scene, so I read it right there.”
Directed by Anees Bazmee, Mistake 3 Stars Karthik Aaryan and Tripti Dimri. The second film in the franchise was produced by Bazmee and starred Aryan, Kiara Advani and Tabu.
Mistake 3Produced by T-Series, it will hit theaters on Diwali.
